Make Netbeans 7.4 Work with Subversion 1.8

Today when I was installing Netbeans 7.3.1 IDE I received an error when setting up my Subversion projects:

org.apache.subversion.javahl.ClientException: E155021: This client is too old to work with the working copy at
'[project]' (format '31').
We strongly recommend to either install a newer Subversion client or downgrade your working copy.
Any local changes might corrupt your working copy and some file operations as copying, renaming and deleting will not work correctly.

Clearly, I need to upgrade the Subversion client that Netbeans is using.

To do this first I download the Slik Subversion Client (version 1.8.3 for this example).

Next, install Slik Subversion Client.

After the install open Netbeans and go to Tools > Options > Misc > Versioning > Subversion. At the top of the dialog window change the Preferred client from SvnKit to CLI.

Then click the Browse… button and select the Slik Subversion Client svn.exe file (in my system this was at C:\Program Files\SlikSvn\bin\svn.exe).

Now Netbeans IDE should work correctly with Subversion 1.8.
